The Seven Sacraments

Jesus Christ gave us the seven sacraments. These sacraments guide us Christians through all important events of our lives.

The Sacraments of Initiation

Baptism

Baptism is the basis of Christian life. We are freed from original sin and reborn as children of God.

At Our Lady of Hope, we celebrate Baptism of children on the first and third Sunday of each month. See the page on Baptismal Preparation for more information. We also celebrate Baptism at the Easter Vigil Mass according to the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.

Godparents must provide a sponsor certificate attesting to their fitness for this important responsibility.

Confirmation

In the sacrament of Confirmation, we receive the strength of the Holy Spirit and find the completion of baptismal grace. As witnesses of Christ, we must then spread and defend our faith by what we say and how we act.

At Our Lady of Hope, we celebrate Confirmation of our teens as part of their religious education and of adults during the Easter Vigil Mass or at Pentecost according to the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.

Confirmation sponsors must provide a sponsor certificate attesting to their fitness for this important responsibility.

Eucharist

Holy Eucharist is the completion of Christian initiation. Eucharist is the center and the height of our Christian life.

At Our Lady of Hope, we celebrate Eucharist at every Mass.

The Sacraments of Healing

Penance

As humans, we are imperfect and we are sinners. In the sacrament of Penance, we convert our souls, confess our sins, receive forgiveness from God, and find reconciliation with Him.

At Our Lady of Hope, we offer the sacrament of Penance on Saturdays at 4:00 PM or by appointment.

Anointing of the Sick

The Anointing of the Sick commends the ill to care of our Lord Jesus Christ, who suffered and is glorified, that he may save them.

At Our Lady of Hope, the Anointing of the Sick is available as part of spiritual care of the sick. Please notify the church office when someone is seriously ill so that we can provide spiritual care.

Sacraments at the Service of Communion

Holy Orders

In Holy Orders, the mission that Christ gave to his Apostles is passed down to future generations until the end of time. By Holy Orders, God gives us bishops, priests, and deacons to serve as His ordained ministers.

If you are interested in becoming a deacon or a priest, please contact the church office for more information.

Matrimony

In Matrimony, a man and woman make a covenant to be partners for their whole lives, for betterment of each other, and for raising children according to God’s plan.

Please contact the church office at least nine months in advance to begin the process of preparing to receive the sacrament of Matrimony.
